The Learning Curve by Alan Fletcher When Ruth Bancroft, a Mod in the 60s, now a lab assistant at a boys' school, embarks on a dangerous affair with one of the 6th formers little does she realise the effect it would have on her life. In a story which unfolds in the last months of the 70s against the background of Punk and Heavy Metal kids, Ruth searches for answers to some questionns about her life at the rag end of that decade and finds herself tripping back to the ethos of the Mods and the 60s for soem of the explanations. Underscoring this story of Ruth's quest for some personal truths is the pageant of an intense, but fragile, relationship of four students, whose lives become briefly entwined with hers as they grapple with their own pressures.
